Module 4: Why EVERYONE is creative (yes, even you)
STEP 1: UNDERSTAND
But what if you are not creative? Well, as of this moment, that notion is to be put to rest. EVERYONE is creative. Harvard Business School Professor, Teresa Amabile, a leading researcher in the study of creativity, notes that “Everyone is capable of producing novel and useful ideas. Anyone can do some degree of creative work.” You – yes you – are creative and have something to offer.
To help get this point across watch the video below from a talk that Rich Trombetta, founder of The Innovation Company, conducted with a group of about 100 people.

STEP 2: EXPERIENCE
Now that you know that you are creative please click on the link below to take The Innovation Company's Idea Indicator Assessment. There are only four questions and it will only take about a minute to complete. Are you an instigator or an investigator? Hmmm. Click on the button below to find out.

OK. Now let's put your creative energy to the test. Get a paper clip and write down as many possible uses for the paper clip as possible. This is a test to see if you are a genius, which, by the way, you are. More on that in a bit. Once you have completed your list click here to learn why we had you do this exercise. You have to promise not to click on the link until you have written down all of your responses!
STEP 3: REFLECT and DO
1. The Idea Indicator
What did you learn about yourself after taking the Idea Indicator Assessment?
How do the results from the Idea Indicator stress that everyone is creative and has something to contribute toward innovative thinking?
What if everyone in your company has the same results? Why is it good that everyone - most likely - doesn't have the same results?
IDEA: Have someone collect all of the responses and plot a graph that shows where people are in your team, group, or company. Discuss what you have learned. Click here to learn how to do this automatically (coming soon).
2. The paperclip - You are a genius! Or, said another way, there is a 98% chance that you were one when you were in kindergarten.
What did you learn from this exercise?
Why do you think it is so much easier for children to develop so many more ideas?
How does exercise relate to building innovative cultures?
IDEA: Have someone collect and make a list of everyone's ideas and put the list into a word cloud. What do you see? Click here to learn how to do this automatically (coming soon).
3. Complete this quick survey (optional)
